It was a big night for both women. The “Deeper Well” singer earned four nominations, taking home one for “Best Country Song.”

Beyoncé held the title for most nominations for the night, racking up 11. She took home multiple awards, including the biggest one of the night: “Album of the Year” for Cowboy Carter. This is her fifth time being nominated in this category, but her first time winning.

But it was when Bey took home the gold for “Best Country Album” that really created a buzz online. She’s the first Black artist to achieve this feat.

“I think sometimes ‘genre’ is a code word to keep us in our place as artists,” Beyoncé said in her acceptance speech, “and I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about.”
